cOLLEGE READINESS. REAL LEADERSHIP. A REAL PATH TO COLLEGE.

Freedom Fellows is Inspire Life’s year-long college readiness fellowship for high school scholars ages 15–18. It is designed for young people who are motivated, curious, and ready to explore the college process but may not have access to the structured support needed to get there. This program is not just for students with the highest GPAs. It is for scholars with potential, drive, and a willingness to try.

Who This Is For

Freedom Fellows is for students who have been overlooked, underestimated, or locked out of advanced opportunities due to systemic and historical barriers and outdated ways of measuring potential.

Many of our fellows are the very students who would thrive in honors tracks, gifted programs, and college prep spaces if given access, but their brilliance is not always reflected in the metrics used to measure potential.

This fellowship changes that.

Like Freedom School, this program recognizes the barriers scholars face and intentionally creates space for those who deserve a real shot.

What Fellows Receive

  • Consistent academic tutoring with dedicated math and english-focused tutors

  • SAT/ACT preparation to broaden the range of colleges and scholarships available

  • Monthly workshops on FAFSA, college admissions, essay writing, academic success skills, and financial aid led by real-world professionals

  • One-on-one mentorship throughout the program year

  • A multi-day HBCU college tour through Georgia, Alabama, and Louisiana with visits to historically significant Civil Rights sites

  • Visits to New Jersey and regional colleges within driving distance

  • A paid Junior Servant Leader Intern position the following summer, earning a stipend for real leadership work in Freedom School

  • A documented fellowship on their college applications that sets them apart

From SCHOLAR to Leader

Fellows don't just prepare for college. They step into leadership on the way there. After completing the fellowship year, scholars return to Freedom School as paid Junior SLIs where they mentor younger scholars, model what it looks like to come from this community and pursue higher education, and earn a stipend that recognizes their service. That transition from student to leader is intentional. It means summer employment. It means visible leadership experience. And it means their college applications reflect not just potential but demonstrated commitment.

Who Should Apply

Freedom Fellows is for high school scholars who want a clear pathway to college and are ready to put in the work. You don't need perfect grades or test scores to be here. You need determination, curiosity, and a willingness to show up consistently for a full year.

If you’ve ever felt like you belong in advanced programs but never had access to them, this fellowship was designed with you in mind. If you’re ready to push yourself, challenge the limits others have placed on you, and discover what you’re truly capable of, this is your space.

Applications are open now. Spots are limited.

What we believe about scholars

  • We believe every scholar has gifts and talents. Not just some. All.

  • We believe traditional labels like “gifted and talented” often reflect access, not ability.

  • We believe scholars are not defined by past missteps or mistakes.
Mistakes are part of learning. Growth is expected. Redemption is real.

  • We believe college is not reserved for a select few. It is for any scholar who chooses that path and is willing to do the work.

  • We believe too many young people miss out on opportunities not because they lack potential, but because they lack access to support, exposure, and guidance.

  • We believe true college preparation should begin in high school, with consistent academic support, mentorship, and real opportunities.

When access meets opportunity, our scholars rise. Every time.

ENCOURAGE YOUR SCHOLAR TO APPLY today.

  • There is no shortage of brilliance. Only a shortage of access. Freedom Fellows exists to close that gap.

  • For the underestimated, the overlooked, and the ones who were never given a real shot. This is your space.

  • They were never lacking ability. They were lacking access. Now they have both.

  • Access should not determine potential. When given the opportunity, our scholars don’t just rise, they redefine what’s possible.
